How to Change a Bike Tire

Here are the general steps to change a bicycle tire:

  1. Turn the bike upside down or place it on a bike stand so that the rear wheel is off the ground.

  2. Use a tire lever to pry the tire away from the rim. Insert the lever between the tire and the rim, and slide it around the circumference of the tire, gradually prying it away from the rim.

  3. Once you have pried one side of the tire off the rim, remove the inner tube from the tire.

  4. Check the tire for any damage or debris that might have caused the flat, and remove it if necessary.

  5. Take the new inner tube and partially inflate it. This will make it easier to install without pinching it between the tire and rim.

  6. Insert the new inner tube into the tire, making sure it is positioned correctly.

  7. Starting at the valve stem, work the tire back onto the rim, being careful not to pinch the inner tube between the tire and rim. Use your hands to push the tire onto the rim, rather than using the tire lever.

  8. Once the tire is back on the rim, inflate the tire to the recommended pressure, which should be written on the sidewall of the tire.

  9. Check that the tire is seated properly on the rim and that the tire pressure is correct.

  10. Finally, replace the wheel back onto the bike and tighten the quick release or bolts.

That's it! With a little practice, changing a bike tire can become a quick and easy process.
