Bike Tour Operations Manager

Farm to Fork Fitness Adventures wants your help to make this season unique and awesome!
Our 2021 season features 18 destinations in the Northeastern, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeastern United States from May – October. Each of our Adventures highlight gorgeous rural areas, showcasing a variety of farms and locally sourced bites along the way. Our cyclists are a thoughtful group of Fit Foodies who appreciate your attention to detail as much as your passion for a healthy lifestyle.
As Bike Tour Operations Manager, you play a key role in our season and are responsible for the setup and oversight of our Guided Bike Tours. You will work closely with the Director of Operations to ensure the quality and consistency of our Adventures. Expect to work alongside senior staff at the first few Adventures while gaining brand fluency and production knowledge, then to earn independence as the season progresses. This position offers great opportunity for development, increased responsibility, and growth within the company as we continue to expand.
Job Description
The Bike Tour Operations Manager is responsible for the successful production of our Guided Bike Tour weekends. The ideal candidate will be responsible, detail-oriented, adaptable, and personable with strong leadership skills, a passion for fitness, and a desire to travel. Responsibilities include:
• Pre- and Post-Adventure coordination with Director of Operations to ensure clear understanding and consistently excellent execution of each weekend of Guided Bike Tours
• Overseeing the safety and success of each Guided Bike Tour, including:
o Leading venue build and tear down
o Collaboration with host personnel, partner farms, and catering as required
o Providing clear and encouraging leadership to the event production team
o Coordinating with all team members and local vendors throughout the Tour
o Ensuring a positive experience for each participant
o Responding to emergent issues as necessary in a professional and responsible manner
• Driving Farm to Fork Fitness Adventures vehicle and 16’ trailer to and from events
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will be self-motivated quick learners who possess:
• Prior bike tour and/or event production and organization experience
• Prior group leadership and coordination experience
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• A dependable work ethic and the ability to work well independently or as part of a motivated team
• Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
• Willingness to work 10-12+ hour days outside, in potentially adverse (weather-dependent) conditions
• Full range of movement including but not limited to lifting, standing for long periods, bending, reaching, and twisting. Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or operate tablets, other objects, tools, or controls
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or move event production equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds
• At least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license without restrictions
• A personal practice for fitness and healthy lifestyle
The following skills or experience are a plus:
• Experience leading bike tours
• Experience with organized outdoor sports events
• Experienced bike mechanic and/or cyclist
• Experience driving and backing a trailer
Work schedule
This is a part-time position that will require significant weekend hours and travel time during the week. The Bike Tour Operations Manager is expected to be at most Adventures on the schedule and should be comfortable executing an event without direct senior staff oversight by mid-season. For details on event dates and locations check the up-to-date schedule on the website: www.FarmtoForkFitness.com/find-adventure. (Be sure to filter by “Guided Tour”!)
Compensation
Farm to Fork Fitness Adventures offers competitive wages and generous sponsor product bonuses. Travel and housing during event production are covered by Farm to Fork Fitness Adventures. The Bike Tour Operations Manager earns $175 per day as a base rate and can expect to receive a share of participant tips as well. All employees receive up to $1000 in sponsor product (i.e. nutrition wellness products, bicycle parts, unclaimed prizes) per season subject to availability and at the discretion of Farm to Fork Fitness Adventures.

POM hires former Bike editors, will launch mountain bike title

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — Pocket Outdoor Media is expanding deeper into bicycle media and adding scale to its Active Pass membership by hiring five Bike magazine editors who were furloughed this fall. The crew will lead the effort to launch a new mountain bike title in 2021.

A360 Media announced in October that it would furlough Bike’s staff and immediately “pause” the magazine as well as several of its other outdoor media titles.

Pocket will launch the new brand with a website in December; the first of four quarterly print issues will be published in the first quarter of 2021.

Pocket’s other bike-related brands include Bicycle Retailer & Industry News, VeloNews, VeloPress, VeloGear, Roll Massif and Triathlete

Mountain biking is one of the most common activities among readers of all POM media titles, which include ski, running, yoga, climbing and wellness brands, said Pocket’s CEO, Robin Thurston.

Patent Watch: Two companies offer wireless shifter adapters as SRAM application touts similar technology

Editor’s note: A version of this article ran in the November issue of BRAIN. It has been updated with more information about the two brands that sell products with similar features as the SRAM patent.

By Alan Coté

SRAM’s recent patent application for an “Electronic Cable Puller” points to the increased integration of e-bikes. But it also might lead to some conflict between SRAM and two U.S. companies that already offer products using technologies similar to what SRAM describes in the application.

With e-bikes surging in popularity both in the U.S. and globally, manufacturers have been considering what else a large-capacity e-bike battery could power in addition to propelling a bike. Headlights, taillights, and integrated computer displays are obvious accessories to draw juice from an e-bike battery. Magura has shown heated grips that use e-bike battery power, and Fox’s E-Live Valve uses the bike battery to control suspension.

But SRAM has its eyes on derailleurs. SRAM’s U.S. patent application for an “Electronic Cable Puller” was published on Sept 10, with Geoff Nichols as the sole inventor. It describes a wireless shifting system that’s centered around an electronic cable puller, which mounts to the frame. The cable puller is powered by an e-bike’s battery.
